During the past week we have received reports (primarily from southwest Georgia) of aphid infestations crashing due to the naturally occurring fungus. In some areas aphids have been slow to build and we are unsure how the fungal epizootic or aphid crashes will progress. The presence of gray, fuzzy aphid cadavers see pic below is indicative of the naturally occurring fungus; once observed in a field we would anticipate aphids to crash in a week or less. UGA research has not shown a consistent yield response when aphids are controlled.
